What was the Four Great Alliance for (torment of tantalus)

i'm still confused, what was the alliance for? was it to fight The Wraith? that couldnt be the reason.....coz, Wraith were all the way in Pegasus.......and the castle (torment of tantalus) was in Milky Way galaxy.....was the alliance for fighting Goaul'd? no, it couldnt be, coz Goauld are like flies to the four great races....Goauld are no match to the Asgard, let alone the powerful Ancients....

Did the Four Great Races fight the Wraith, and somehow wiped them out in Milky way?

ok, my feelings is that the alliance was formed to fight the alien that chased Prometheus into the nebula (gas cloud-Grace).......i mean anybody know where the hell did the aliens go?

Why do you think they would made the alliance just to fight common enemy ?
They were all samrt, and alliance would be good for all of them also in peace time.

Dude..They had problems with replicators. I am sure that in season 9 they will kick some Goauld ass.

No the alliance was just a friendship thing, share tech etc.

The goauld came after ancients and nicked left over tech eg. the stargates and rings

basically the goauld are like squatters, they waited for the ancients to go out, then moved in on there stuff!

didn't the asgard come before the the replicateors so why dident that fight the Goa'uld (because in the replicators came before the Goa'uld the anciants would have wiped them out using the disruptor) anyway i think they were formed to ensure peace in the galaxy

the asguard said when earth joined the protected planets treaty that they do not realy have enough power to destroy the goauld despite superior tech.

yeah the alliance shared knowledge and friendship but it would mean they could call on each other for assistance to destroy an evil enemy. I wonder if the heberdians/ seracans are advanced enough to join or interact with the asguad and other members. I mean a good test is that they managed to beat the gould a rvery long time ago and create a peaceful and advanced society.

i believe the allieance was formed after the ancients came back from pegasus. there is some prove that the goa'ulds were around wen the ancinet allieance existed.
In 'the fifth race' daniel says 'so it is possible al the races in the allieance veld the same' (as the asgard, regarding the goa'uld)
and most important, the ancient database did not react to teal'c. so the ancient database was build while the goa'uls were around

that is a good point but the gould would all be dead if the alliance felt that they were a threat that much have been when the gould were in denger of dying and Ra came to earth.

maby the gou'ld wernt a threat and the asgard dident wipe them out but then they ecaume a threat after the replicators came thus the asgard couldn't do anything

i don't know, to my knowledge, the alliance had no concern for Gouald at all....coz, Goauld are just like little insects in the eyes of the alliance... Asgard alone could wipe out those dozens of Hataks single handedly, no need for the rest great races.......just send Biliskner....heheh....

just wondering,if the Giants in crystal skull really the Furlings that is much awaited for, then the alliance was indeed meant to fight the goauld...."wu le ya ling ya ling bla2".........

could the alliance formed to fight the Wraith? maybe Wraith did go to milky way galaxy....and they were destroyed by the alliance....that would be a fair guess....wouldnt it?
