Episodes:
Suspicion
Weir is lead to believe there's a spy on the base when the team encounter the wraith a little too frequently to be a coincidence. They suspect the Athosians, so gate travel is suspended and they begin to interview their guests. Meanwhile doctors McKay and Zelenka discover that the jumper bay's roof retracts, and Sheppard ventures out to survey the planet. They discover there's land on the water world, just 25 minutes away. And with relations strained from the interviews, the Athosians migrate to the mainland where they can farm and support themselves. With the Athosians gone, gate travel resumes and they encounter the Wraith yet again. When Sheppard get's hit they have to retreat through the gate, leaving Teyla and Lt. Ford behind to make their own way back. When they return Teyla is suspected as being the spy, and Sgt. Bates asks McKay to check through her things. He discovers that Teyla's necklace Major Sheppard found on Athosia is a tracker, activated by the presence of the ancient gene. The team decide to use the device to their own advantage, and lay a trap for the Wraith. Capturing one and locking him up in a shielded cell back on Atlantis. This episode mainly focuses on the relationships between the new Atlantians, the Athosians, and their colleague and leader Teyla. There's some fine action sequences, especially when Teyla goes all kung-fu on the wraith. And there's quite a few technological discoveries in this episode, which also puts some closure on the Athosian storyline.
Childhood's End
Sheppard and co's Puddle Jumper crash lands on a planet inhabited by children. Who believe that their population has only survived from the wraith by taking their own lives when they're 25. The team discovers the real reason behind their survival when they find the Ancient device that protects their village, and which also caused the Jumper to crash. It's a Zero Point Module powered field generator, which disrupts any electro-magnetic based technology in the area. And when McKay removes the ZPM, a distress call from a crashed wraith alerts the others. The storyline develops well and keeps you watching. And the children's village is nicely designed, with a series of tree houses and walkways. This is a good example of an exploration episode, which is what stargate is all about.
Poisoning The Well
The team discover a culture similar to early 20th century earth. They are developing a drug that will make them inedible for the Wraith, and the Atlantians offer a hand. They test the drug on the captured Wraith from "Suspicion", with a terminally ill volunteer. The test exceeds expectations when the Wraith is poisoned by the drug, and it soon turns to becoming an offensive weapon. But all is not well when half of those inoculated die, sacrificing themselves so that the rest of the population can live on as a death trap to the Wraith. This episode gives Dr. Beckett (Paul McGillion) a decent amount of airtime. And one of the storylines is him falling for the doctor he's developing the drug with. This episode has very little action, but the plot is sound. And the twisting story keeps the viewer interested.
Home
When a planet with an abundance of energy is found, a plan is hatched to gate back to Earth. Weir and the team gate back, and apprise General Hammond of the situation in Atlantis. They soon settle in back on Earth. Teyla finds a love for shopping, Weir goes home, and McKay watches "The Outer Limits". But not everything is how it seems, when it becomes obvious that the Atlantians are in separate realities. They meet the entity responsible and find out that they never really gated back to earth. It was an illusion to prevent them using the stargate and killing millions of the energy based beings. This episode is similar to the SG-1 eps "Gamekeeper", "Cold Lazarus", and "Entity". And is executed well, as it involves the viewer by laying down clues as to what's going on.
