Stargate SG-1 Volume 44 Review

Reviewby Vern on 2007-01-01 00:00:00

Info/Review: Before we get on with the review there's a little extra something worthy of a mention. When you first open the case of this DVD you're greeted with SG-1 collectors handbook and a card "decoder wheel". The handbook contains the DVD release dates for season 9 of Stargate SG-1 and season 2 of Stargate: Atlantis, and also some information on what can be unlocked with the decoder card. On the inside back of each DVD sleeve is a set of gate symbols. After first tearing of the activation strip on the card, you can move a wheel (The Stargate) and a code will appear in the wormhole. You the match the numbers up with the symbols on the dvd case to gain the code to access a restricted area of the official website http://www.sg1-uk.com. Where you can watch new interview footage not on the DVDs, downloads (screensavers, ringtones, wallpapers), games, and win prizes from widescreen DVDs to signed stargate merchandise. The motion menus on this DVD is an image of excaliber. It's a fairly decent looking menu, and is easy to navigate. The only thing that isn't so good is the option highlighting, which is just a square shaped icon next to the menu option. Where the menu is horizontal it get's confusing as to which item is selected.
Special Features:
Production Design and Photo Gallery:
A slideshow of photos from the featured episodes.
SG-1 Directors Series "Avalon" Featuring Andy Mikita:
This is a behind the scenes documentary on the episode Avalon. Andy Mikita is the director to guide you through this very well presented look at the Stargate SG-1 episode.
It takes a crew to raise a village:
A documentary on the building of the Village set used in both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. Again this is very well presented, and a brilliant behind the scenes look at the stargate shows.
Commentaries:
Here you get the chance to watch the episodes with an audio commentary from director Andy Mikita, executive producer Robert Cooper, director of photography Jim Manard, director William Waring, writer and executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, and creative consultant Martin Gero.
Episodes:
Avalon Part 1:
SG-1's newest member, Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell, arrives on his first day to find that Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson and Teal'c have all taken on new assignments. With no one available to lead SG-1, General Hank Landry, the new head of Stargate Command, stuns Mitchell by appointing him to the position. Complicating matters for Mitchell is the sudden return of the beautiful thief, Vala Malduran. Motivated, as usual, by her insatiable appetite for ill-gotten gain, Vala has come armed with a stolen tablet that she is convinced holds the secret to a buried treasure
