Stargate SG-1: The Ultimate Visual Guide |

Info/Review:The new book from DK books titled "Stargate SG-1: The Ultimate Visual Guide" is nothing short of a masterpiece, matching an encycolpedic knowledge of the Stargate universe with superb large full colour photos from the record breaking series.
The thing that stands out straight away is the DVD set into the front cover. Packed with spectacular Stargate SG-1 artwork from James C D Robbins, behind the scenes footage with the cast of SG-1, a video compilation of Stargate SG-1s best moments, and a superb interactive trivia quiz (unlocks a bonus gallery), it is a stunning companion to the book.
Now on the Ultimate Visual Guide itself, I opened the book thinking from the title that it is all pictures and nothing much in the way of reading, and I could not have been more wrong. The book starts off with a foreword from Mr Stargate himself, Richard Dean Anderson aka Brigadier General Jack Oneill, where he gives his whole-hearted thumbs up for the great work done by Kate (Kathleen) Ritter on the book.
From there begins a mix of great photography/drawings and spot-on knowledge of the technology, characters, planets/locations, and storylines of SG-1. And this is done in an arrangement that follows the series in a near episodic way, starting off with the essentials and then following on in a season-by-season manner so that everything is easy to find and understand.
This guide is a must have for any fan of the Stargate series. But especially for those introduced to the Stargate Universe with the newer spin-off from SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis, and in need of a detailed but concise knowledge of the shows past. Covering everything from which specific military medals the SG-1 characters have, through to an excellent family tree diagram of the Goa'uld, and dictionarys of alien languages.
The Stargate SG-1: Ultimate Visual Guide is 143 bigger-than-A4 pages packed with EVERTHING you could possibly want to know about SG-1. In conclusion, if I were to rate this book out of 10, I would give it a 12. |
